My Experience

Product Manager - Sky

As part of a Product Management Career Accelerator at King’s College London, I worked on a 6-week employer-led project with Sky, a leading media and telecommunications company. Our brief was to investigate how to improve the voice control features to enhance accessibility for users with various impairments.

Our goal was to identify user pain points, benchmark competitors, and propose a roadmap for improving Sky’s accessibility and user satisfaction.

  1. User & Market Research:

    • Conducted user interviews and surveys with individuals living with visual and cognitive impairments.

    • Analysed Sky Help Forum complaints, TrustPilot reviews, and existing accessibility documentation.

    • Conducted competitive analysis of voice control features on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Google TV.

  2. Insights:

    • Users wanted voice commands to be more intuitive and responsive.

    • Lack of customisation options and limited user feedback (e.g., audio cues) were key friction points.

    • Competitors offered better onboarding and tutorials for voice navigation.

  3. Solution & Recommendations:

    • Prioritised accessibility updates including enhanced audio feedback, voice command tutorials, and personalisation features.

    • Created an MVP outline for a voice onboarding experience with step-by-step training for users.

    • Suggested cross-functional co-production with accessibility experts and real users.

  4. Roadmap & Delivery:

    • Designed a 3-month phased roadmap in Miro, from user research synthesis to MVP release.

    • Presented to Sky’s product and accessibility leads, receiving positive feedback for user insight quality and practicality.

Impact:

  • Developed a user-centred strategy to address accessibility barriers.

  • Gained experience in stakeholder alignment, MVP design, and product storytelling.

  • Reinforced the value of co-production in product design for inclusive innovation.
